Copyright and permissions for footage

Image
Due to the cost of an entry ticket into Beamish, I have considered using stock footage instead of getting the footage myself. For this, I sourced a clip from the BFI which included the city of Sunderland trams from 1904. I spoke with some one from the BFI who was able to supply me with their copyright policy and fair use of the video clip. This was as follows: " Several exceptions allow copyright works to be used for educational purposes, such as: the copying of works in any medium as long as the use is solely to illustrate a point, it is not done for commercial purposes, it is accompanied by a sufficient acknowledgement, and the use is fair dealing. This means minor uses, such as displaying a few lines of poetry on an interactive whiteboard, are permitted, but uses which would undermine sales of teaching materials are not performing, playing or showing copyright works in a school, university or other educational establishment for educational purposes. However, it only applies if ...

Pre Production- Storyboard

Below is my storyboard along with the shots that I have taken to bring these drafts to life. These were drawn months before filming but I was able to successfully recreate what I had intended to shoot. The storyboard helped me visualise what I wanted the shots to look like as well as what kind of angle/shot size I would need to be able to successfully recreate them in real life.  storyboard for sunderland culture from Sophieg8

Pre production- equipment list

Provisional equipment list before obtaining said items and any add on's. Most resources will be obtained closer to filming time. Doing this list helps to prepare and organise me and my potential team before going out and filming. This way, there is no having to go back for forgotten items.  For shooting day 1: Winter Gardens, Stadium of Light Unfortunately, I wasn't able to obtain a tripod for this day of filming and so it meant that my footage came out slightly shaky. I was able to counteract this by adding a warp stabiliser effect in post production in order to cancel out the handheld look of the footage.  For shooting day 2: National Glass Centre On this day, I was able to obtain all of the necessary resources and had a lot of quality stable footage as a result. This therefore did not needed to be adjusted in post production except for some colour corrections.

Pre production- risk assessments

These risk assessments are helping to identify what could potentially go wrong when shooting. This way, me and anyone I'm working with will be aware of potential hazards and ensure we carry out safe practice when filming. In identifying these hazards, I can also lower the risk of an accident occurring because of them. A lot of them are now trivial or low risk meaning that it is unlikely an incident will happen during the visit.  Winter Gardens- Risk assessment Risk assessment sunderland museum and winter gardens from SophieGibson9 Outdoor filming- risk assessment Risk Assessment Outdoor filming from Sophieg8

Pre production- location scouting/release

The following are two documents that are partially completed. This was their status before going to the location. I will be filling in the rest of the form with the relevant contact at the Museum and Winter Gardens. This form allows me to prove that I have permission to film on the premises so that an issue does arise around filming on their venue, I can back it up with this. Upon attending said location, I enquired whether permission was needed to film in their building. I was told that I was free to film as long it didn't include the faces of any children. Of course, that meant that I had a green light to film and didn't need written
