Production Diary

This post contains all the relevant information relating to the planning, production and shooting of my project in a diary style. I go through each day of production and what I had achieved that day as well as how this was carried out.

For my project, I am planning to conduct and include some interviews for my bid video. I have planned out some questions to ask interviewees, which I will be able to include as a kind of narration over my montage. I'm hoping to record some of them in front of Sunderland Culture owned buildings such as The National Glass Centre or Fire Station to promote my clients values.

Today I went out and started filming some of my projects. I have a list of places that I plan to film or try to film and I have ticked 3 of these off the list. I was able to film: Stadium of Light, Museum and Winter Gardens and the Metro Station. I asked at the main desk in the Winter Gardens if it was okay to film and they said it is allowed just as long I don't film children or in the Art Gallery- therefore the location permission sheet was not needed as I didnt need permission to film. Unfortunately, the coal-mining exhibit is closed for another week and so I was not able to capture footage in here as I planned to. This was one of the more set-on-stone shots that I wanted to take as it is a good comparison between the old vs new. I was able to find an exhibit in the shipbuilding that I was able to take a similar shot as what I planned. However, I still think it would be beneficial to go back when the exhibit is open and film again. I filmed using a DSLR camera that I borrowed from college and used 25fps setting. For this I also switched between Auto ISO and manual depending on the darkness of the area I was filming- for example, I had to manually adjust the ISO for the shipbuilding exhibits.

Today I aimed to get one of the planned interviews done. However, upon arrival at the planned location (National Glass centre), we found that the wind conditions were too disruptive to be able to record any quality audio. Instead, I was able to get some shots of the building and the riverside and we have rearranged the interview to take place as an audio recording in college where there won't be sound quality disruptions. I shot this again in 25fps and 1920x1080p. This is to keep a good quality of video and will also match the fps that I will be editing in.

Today I was able to film a lot more of my project in a style of a car journey around Sunderland. We were able to drive past some hot spots such as Seaburn, Roker and Penshaw monument. I am now finished filming the project and will need to review and edit the montage together using Premiere Pro. I was able to gain a range of material that can be used in my project, I have a choice of clips to use in post production. This is exampled as below with my range of clips available to use for Penshaw monument- this is the raw footage before editing. However, I will most likely be using one of the clips where the camera is closer to the monument.
