Post-Production Diary

This post contains all of the information that is in relation to my post production phase of the project. This includes my editing process, response to feedback and any rough work in this area.

Today I edited the video footage that I shot yesterday. This included: Stadium of Light, Museum and Metro. I started experimenting with the footage and brought some aspects of my storyboard to life such as the transition between the tram to metro / museum screen to cinema screen- these have been some stand out scenes since the very early stages of this project and feature in my pitch. I was also able to add to scenes that I planned in my storyboard but add more effects such as the lens flare which makes the scene a lot more interesting to look at. This is the case on the Stadium's Sunderland Badge where it looks like the sun is reflecting off the sign but is just the lens flare feature on Premiere Pro. To give it this effect, I turned down the opacity to just under 30%, so that the difference is subtle but there. I also had to use a warp stabiliser on quite a few of the scenes in order to balance out the shakiness of the camera.

I also came up with the idea of having the 1973 Cup Final in the background of the Bobby Stokoe statue. I had never made a video clip that was similar to this, layering two videos on top of each other. To do this, I layered the two videos ontop of each other and kept the statue footage at 100% opacity whilst having the Cup Final footage at 25% so that both videos can be seen simultaneously.

Today I began editing my entire project together as a final product. This is not near finishing so should take a couple more days of editing before I can ask for feedback etc.

I began putting a structure to my piece which now consists of an intro, title, shipbuilding/coalmining days and a drive around Sunderland. I am planning on adding a section of modern day creatives.

I did come across a few problems during the editing process. For the section that I filmed in the car- the weather conditions weren't great meaning that the colour didn't come through very well. To counteract this, I used some colour corrections on the 'Colour' panel of Premiere Pro. This now makes the clips more usable and more aesthetic to view. The colour now has more colours rather than being mostly grey.

Subtle but beneficial difference between the top and bottom make the video more aesthetically pleasing to watch.

I am in the process of exporting and asking for feedback my first full edit of the project.

I have sourced and used footage from online for the parts that I couldn't capture myself because of budgeting problems. This includes things such as the end of theatre performances that I was not able to capture myself. However, I know copyright wouldn't be an issue when using these clips as the performers tell the audience that they can record the finale. I have also used my logo from the first project so mark the work as one of my own and continue with my branded identity.

Due to feedback, I have now added in a narration using Premiere Rush due to working from home. I did find this a bit of a challenge as there isn't any advanced settings for audio. Instead of adjusting the volume lines, I had to split the track and adjust the volume of each clip. This isn't as smooth this way but doesn't affect the overall video clip very much.
